The project site is of 5,000 square meters and for the purpose of arts and culture. The building coverage ratio is set at 40% while the floor area ratio is set at 250%. The site is surrounded by schools and residential communities, forming a circular education zone. Considering the large amount of students near the library, the design of the library will need to take consideration of their needs heavily.
The site will locate near the future Taoyuan Metro Green Lane. The G11 station will be located close by the Taoyuan Exhibition Center, making it convenient to attract crowds into the site. There are sporadic green parks and spleen ponds near the site as well. Due to the fact that the site is the only large public cultural park in the city, the design will need to take into account the integrity of the landscape and provide an unique leisure space for the residents.
THE READING GARDEN | THE CITY ROOM OF TAOYUAN
The central plaza of Taoyuan is becoming more and more the true central space of the city, a ‘city room’. With the axis and streets that lead to it. With the functions that surround it like the night market. With the new high buildings that surround the plaza. With the lawns, pavements and gardens that create a multiple usage like rooms on the plaza. The current Arts center and now the new public library… How can the library contribute the best to it?
This ‘city room’ is composed out of a series of smaller ‘rooms’ or gardens that each contribute to the usage of the square. The lawn for picnics. The garden for sitting and strolling in the shadow. The central plaza for festivities. The front garden around the …. The new library can maybe form one of these ‘rooms’. A new ‘room’. The ‘Reading Room’.
