This project is located on Heping Island in Keelung City, it is the archaeological site of the “San Salvador City and Monastery Archaeological Excavation Project.” Since 2011, archaeologists have unearthed cultural relics from multiple periods, including the 17th-century “Todos Los Santos Church”, “Iron Age Shisanhang Culture”, and “late Neolithic Yuanshan Culture”. The project aims to construct a facility that protects the site, supports archaeological work, and serves as a center for promoting cultural heritage knowledge, moreover, deepening historical education.
“Greater Keelung Historical Scene Revival Project” has restored forgotten historical sites, with the Heping Island Pingyi Road excavations as a highlight. The Spanish built forts and churches here, integrating Taiwan into global trade routes and leaving a rich historical legacy.
Using the concept of “the site as the exhibition,” the design integrates modern technology and curatorial thinking to create interactive exhibitions and visitor routes. This allows viewers to explore the historical site from a fresh perspective, experience captivating stories, and feel the impact of history brought back to life.
