Ecotourism & Sustainable Design at Hotel dùa Kenting
Ecotourism is a responsible way of traveling, aiming to conserve nature and enhance local well-being. Hotel dùa Kenting integrates eco-friendly, technological, and creative design concepts, encouraging visitors to experience Kenting National Park in a more immersive and sustainable way.
Coral Reef Symbiosis – A Marine-Inspired Local Strategy
Taiwan’s marine area is six times its land area, rich in biodiversity. Kenting National Park is Taiwan’s first national park to include marine ecosystems, with coral reefs playing a vital role in sustaining marine life along the 200m deep continental shelf. Inspired by this, Hotel dùa Kenting embodies a symbiotic system, fostering connections between the hotel, the national park, and Pingtung’s broader ecological network.
Site Conservation & Sustainable Materials
The design preserves existing trees, including Norfolk Island pines, cotton trees, and flame trees, while courtyard banyans and planted greenery help regulate microclimate temperatures. Retained windbreaks reduce noise, block strong winds, and lower the ambient temperature. Locally sourced coral stone, excavated on-site, is repurposed for entrance walls and landscaping. The modular Ferrari fabric sunshades mimic the vibrant colors of coral reefs, evoking a tropical marine aesthetic.
