Fengshan Sky City—Design Concept of Fengshan Station and Development Building

The underground railway project in Fengshan area was approved before the merger of Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City. At that time, it was proposed to build a seven-story development building above Fengshan Station. During the design process, in response to the new prospects of the merged Kaohsiung City, we cooperated with Architects Chang to re-plan this new landmark in the Fengshan area. After the efforts of all parties, it finally passed the review of Kaohsiung City Government and is currently under construction. Fengshan Station will consist of two co-construction buildings, each with ten floors and six floors, which will connect the surrounding areas of the station and open up new opportunities for urban development. It will become an important new core for Kaohsiung to develop into an international city.
Exploring the Connection between MRT Stations and Their Surrounding Urban Environment: the Cases of Stations Y26, Y28, and Y29 (lot DF117) on the North Section of the Circular Line
The Taipei metropolitan area MRT network connects important arterial roads with a grid road network, expanding outwards along important corridors in radial routes. The establishment of Taipei MRT’s Circular Line aims to further improve the transportation convenience of the city by forming a loop which will connect with the metropolitan area’s existing radial MRT lines. The 1st stage of the Circular Line (Dapinglin Station – New Taipei Industrial Park Station) has already been opened to traffic. The second stage includes the DF115 bidding package (South Section), as well as the DF116 and DF117 (North Section) packages, and is planned for completion and opening to traffic by the end of 2028. The areas through which the line’s South and North Sections will pass are some of Taipei City’s earliest developed areas. They have a long cultural tradition and the residents’ activities in them have a close connection with the local environment. In the future, after these sections are completed, they will contribute to an improved regional urban development integration and a creation of the complete Taipei City living circle.
Building on the continuity between the MRT stations and their surrounding urban environment, harmonizing the visual aesthetics, and blending the stations’ design better with their environment, can help create infrastructure that fits the urban texture and style. In this manner, the MRT stations can become another manifestation of Taipei City’s unique charm, where transportation, urban life and the residents’ prosperity are closely intertwined with each other.
